Brief History on the Aussie Bulldog

The Aussie Bulldog breeding program was
started by Noel & Tina Green
(Founders of the J.A.G line) to create a Bulldog suitable to
Australia.
The foundation lines of this breed started in 1993, and years
later linking up with Pip Nobes and her foundation dogs. These
original foundation lines from Greens & Nobes were bred back to
British bulldogs to get the ideal bulldog look required, being a
breed percentage of 81.25 % or 13/16.
The name Aussie Bulldog came about through
discussions between Noel & Tina,
in July of 1997 on a small horse and cattle property south of
Toowoomba QLD. A week later they put the first ad for Aussie
bulldog pups in the Brisbane courier mail classifieds and
had an overwhelming response to the puppies they had for
sale. The following year the Aussie Bulldog appeared on the Bourke's
back Yard program, on TV and a follow up Bourke's Backyard
magazine.
The original Jag lines were made up of
Staffy,Boxer,Bullmastiff,British Bulldog, and later
concentrated more on Bullmastiff cross British bulldog
bloodlines which are behind most Aussie Bulldogs today.
The J D Johnson American
Bulldog was introduced in
1999 for their known whelping
ability and solid body type. These dogs were from Cauchi kennels
originally in Sydney's western suburbs. Cauchi also sold
American bulldog breeding females
to Devass kennels in QLD which were later used to
start their Aussie bulldog foundation line.
The Greens registrar was handed to the Cauchis for 18 mths in
May 2001.
The Cauchi registrar is still in place today, but the UABA
breeder records and previous records dating back to 9-06-88
being Jag foundation dogs have always been personally held by
Noel & Tina up to and including current breed details and
registrations from 80 breeders .
The United Aussie Bulldog Association was formed in 2003 to
bring all these lines together as a group of breeders and to
continue the documentation of this emerging new breed for the
future.
The Nobes line dogs started from an English Bullterrier cross
Rottweiler female known as Nobes lady penny, and then were
mainly structured on Boxer bloodlines bred back to British
Bulldogs which was her Wingarra line, later on bringing in the
use of Bullmastiff. There were other breeds originally used
behind the Hamersley line and Ducat lines which you can view on
the Australian bulldog society web site " ABS" that was formed
in 2005 by Pip Nobes.
Whether this breed
becomes registered with the Australian National Kennel Council
or not ,they have already been recognised by Australians, for
their improved function and lovable nature, and this will not
change regardless of ANKC recognition
